Days Out at the Beach
Try building a sand sculpture. Wet sand can be formed into almost any shape, the most obvious is a castle - but don't stop there, how about a dolphin or a school of fish, a boat or even a pirate ship - you name it you can build it with a little patience and a bucket and spade. Rock pooling is fun - and educational. If you have a bucket and shrimping net you can catch the creatures you see. Otherwise just watch and enjoy. If you feel educational, arm yourself with a book to identify any creatures you find. Make a game of returning creatures you catch to their pool before you leave the beach. Collect shells or sea washed glass. With more than one child, this almost always turns into a competition of who can find most or the best pieces. If you are collecting sea washed glass make sure your children understand the difference between sea washed and newly broken (dangerous). When you get home your collections can be displayed in old jam jars. Names in the sand Using a stick write your name, nice and large in the sand. Collect stones, shells, seaweed to decorate it. Take a photo to take home! |
