Mini Sew-On Badge

You will need:

Medium weight iron-on Vilene
Heavy weight cotton or polycotton fabric 
Sewing machine threads 
Stranded cottons 
Sequins and beads 
Pencil
Needle 
Iron and ironing board 
Sewing machine - optional

First make a sew-on badge:

• Cut out a 4cm square of medium weight iron-on vilene.
• Iron the vilene onto the back of the fabric.
• Cut the fabric down to the same size as the vilene.
• Use a sewing machine to zigzag round all the edges, you can hand sew round in blanket stitch if you prefer.

Now decorate your sew-on badge:

• Draw a simple bold design on your sew-on badge.
• Use stranded cotton to stitch your design - use a variety of stitches. Try stem stitch, back stitch or whipped running stitch for design outlines.  Lazy daisy stitch works really well for flower petals.  Fly stitch, herringbone stitch, cross stitch and french knots are all good for filling in design areas. Do try other stitches as well - look them up in a stitch dictionary.
• Add sequins and beads to your sew-on badge for a bit of sparkle.
• When you have finished, why not sew your mini badge onto your pencil case or school bag.
